| OLD SHAWNEE TOWN 2008 STREET RALLY LOCATION : Old Shawnee Town, Illinois ENTRY FEES : $10 armband. NO extra fees for trailers, support vehicules OR RV's! Ice sold, food and other vendors on location, 3 bars including the HogDaddy's saloon right there on main street, open container laws, beer sold on the street. Exclusive biker party coverage Old Shawnee Town Street Rally 2008 Probably the best run street rally I've ever been to. Going on the same weekend as the little sturgis KY rally and barely 20 miles away, I just had to check it out. Old Shawnee town is a very small place, and one of the oldest towns in Illinois. And they sure know how to put on a great party. First of all it's only $10 to enter, and that includes free primitive camping in the town park. Open container laws are in effect, so you can buy a drink in a bar and then walk down the street drinking as you go to the next bar... all without getting arrested! It's kind of like Bourbon street, but without all the balconies. Main street is pretty small, only a few hundred yards long. And crammed in that space there's the HogDaddy's Saloon (a huge biker bar, with food, drinks and a mechanical bull), a very small titty bar, an open air stage, another bar/restaurant in the old hardware store and of course a couple of areas with vendors selling everying from biker stuff... to more biker stuff. As it IS a town rally, they try to keep the nudity off the main street although their certainly not anal about it. The worst I saw was a cop saying ''those are pretty maa'm, perhaps you could you better show them in the bar?''. Damn, way better than the cops in Daytona beach! About 5,000 people or so showed up for this one, and I liked it WAY better than Little Sturgis. No line up at the gate, no waiting in the holding field to get in, only a lousy $10 for the entire weekend, always a bar you could pop into when it got too hot (it was hotter than hell this weekend), if you get thirsty you don't have to walk half a mile just to get a drink, and of course best of all everyone had a great time. What more could you ask for? Too bad it's a once a year event. Of course you don't really need an excuse to pop on over to HogDaddy's saloon which was the best thing happening at this street rally... they're open all year round! |
